YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Lemon-Mint Quinoa Salad
There is a ton of mint growing near the door to my basement, and here’s a wonderful way to use it up and show it off! Continue reading
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Chickpea (Nahit) Celebration!
Last Saturday our friends welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world and everyone, (especially the two big sisters of this sweet, lucky little boy) is ecstatic. In my family, it is traditional to serve chickpeas to celebrate the birth of a newborn child. The dish is called nahit.
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Zucchini Fries
If you’ve never eaten chickpea (garbanzo bean) flour, this is a great recipe to start with! Not only is it super flavorful, imparting a wonderfully nutty flavor to these zucchini fries, but chickpeas are also packed with protein and fiber, for a dish that sticks to your ribs and makes your heart sing for joy. Continue reading
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Chickpeas & Posole
If you have never heard of posole, you are in for a seriously delicious treat. Posole is the same as hominy, kernels of corn that have been soaked in limewater, then hulled and dried. These are whole, not like the ones that are crushed for making grits. You can get some extraordinarily good posole from Rancho Gordo in Napa, or from a Mexican grocery, or from most anywhere that beans, nuts, seeds and grains are sold in bulk. YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Creamy Homespun Hummus
It’s never too early to start collecting recipes for the upcoming end of football season! A plate of this creamy hummus to share, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with spicy paprika, and you will be in seventh heaven, no matter what the score! Continue reading

And thanks, Michael Ruhlman, for never taking those previous sets of guidelines [which warned us against “the evils of eggs and their concerning cholesterol levels”] seriously. Continue reading
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Pumpkin Harvest Rice
Take all your favorite fall flavors, and mix them up in a big beautiful bowl! This is a wonderful dish for company, but the leftovers (if there are any) the next day are even better. Continue reading
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Cauliflower-Pumpkin Swirl Dip
Nothing like recipes for the season! I’ve got 3 perfectly beautiful pumpkins on the table outside just waiting to be turned into something yummy and Octobery. This recipe goes together very nicely, but I do recommend that you measure out all your ingredients in advance. Continue reading
YOUR HEALTHY PLATE: Chickpeas & Parsley
This recipe is a super-delicious, uber-nutritious gift from a dear friend. He says it was inspired by Michael Symon’s 5 in 5, but this version is vegan! Serve it in a beautiful, brightly colored bowl, and put the bowl on a large red cloth napkin or table runner. My imagination is running wild… Continue reading
