This is a special recipe for when you’ve had enough but the pandemic has not. As you may already know, I am not a big fan of juices for regular consumption. Yes, this post is about orange juice, but the best kind possible — the kind you make yourself.
I think commercially made juices are fine if you are sick and you’re working to keep yourself well-hydrated, but I am not a big fan of a large glass of orange juice every morning with your breakfast. Juice spikes your blood sugars, so it’s a nice treat for special occasions, but it’s generally not a great choice for every day. An 8-ounce glass of juice every morning adds up to 56 ounces of juice a week. That’s a lot. This recipe is something entirely different.
One more thing. With or without a shot of vodka, you’ll need a high-speed blender (like a Vitamix) to make this.
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
4 medium oranges (peeled and sliced in half)
2 pitted Medjool dates
1 1/2 cups ice cubes
- Place all the above ingredients in the blender container in the order listed. Close the lid securely.
- Turn on the blender on the lowest speed, and increase immediately to high speed.
- Blend for one minute, and serve. Serves 1-2.
Thank you to Vitamix for this recipe.
