Sometimes You’ve Gotta Go Slow

A while back I learned that race car drivers have a saying: “Sometimes you’ve gotta go slow to go fast.” If you want to shave seconds off your time, in other words, you need to slow down as you head into the curve. If you want to keep up, sometimes you need to back off a little. It’s especially true right now. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we’re actually headed into the roughest part of the pandemic. I had no idea that this whole year was just a dress rehearsal for the real thing.

So you’re gonna have to give it all you’ve got, and that means you’re going to need your rest. If you’re planning on giving it your best shot, and you have no choice really, then you’re going to have to pace yourself. After all, you don’t get your best mileage with the gas pedal pressed all the way down to the floor.

Generally speaking, this has always been a good time of year to consider your options anyway. It’s all about balance. Instead of burning the candle at both ends, pick one end. And then take time to appreciate the glow.

That’s what it means to take a step back, look things over, lower your head in gratitude, sit quietly for a few minutes. Set an intention, whether for the day or the week or the year to come. Breathe, my friends. Stay home if you can, and see you next week…
